DIY Vintage Table Makeover

Hello! It’s Taryn from Design, Dining + Diapers!

How is everyone’s Summer going so far?

We have a busy summer ahead as we prepare for baby #2 to arrive in September!

The baby will be moving into the nursery which means I get to design a ‘big girl’ room for my 2 year old daughter.

I’ve been having so much fun with this space and today I’m showing off a little desk I up-cycled for her room.

I’m going with a vintage chic look for her room and I was SO excited when I stumbled upon this 1950’s Vintage Typewriter Table $20!

It was the perfect little size for her and I knew I wanted it the second I saw it.

But here is the problem, this isn’t what it looked like before. Are you ready to see what it started out as?

It was a painted metal that had several scratches and was chipping.

Confession, this is the VERY first time I have tried Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Can you believe it?

It took me long enough. I received a sample of the Duck Egg Blue Paint at SNAP

and it just happened to be the perfect color for my daughter’s room so I decided to give it a try.

My first experience was a success!

I’m so excited about how it turned out. It’s such a charming little table and she already loves it.

The sides also pop out to make it a long table, but as you can see they didn’t age that well.

They are a little lop sided, so we’ll probably keep them down most of the time.

If you haven’t tried Chalk Paint before, I would give it a shot.

It can run a little bit pricey compared to traditional paint, but a little bit goes a long ways and I really like the finish on it.

I did 1 coat of Duck Egg Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and then did a few touch-ups and then 2 coats of soft wax.

I have tons of other projects being revealed soon in this cute little space so be sure to pop on over and follow along 🙂

Thanks for having me today Desirée!
