Garden arbors are set up as walk through areas in home gardens or public parks where one can relax and rest. There are many styles of arbors to choose from.

Garden Arbors – A Walk Through Nature.

Many are open frameworks which are typically made of latticework or rustic work.  Some also function as a trellis for climbing or creeping plants. (my favorites!)

Arbors can also be constructed as part of decks or patios. Some even have hanging swings.  A perfect place to read and relax on a nice spring or summer day.

While arbors seem to grace many garden’s today, this is not something that is new in landscaping.  They date back to the  the 400s B.C. and A.D. 400′s, when elaborate courtyards were a hallmark of many Roman homes.  Japanese landscaping makes great use of arbors, often in creating tranquil Zen moods.

Here is a wonderful collection of arbors that I think are just lovely. Any of of these is welcome to find a home in my garden!

This formal arbor with paved walkway is tranquil and lush.  I love the purple flowers along the pathway edge and white flowers on the arbor. Such a hint of things to come around the bend!  Source:  Karl Gercens on Flickriver

I love Garden Tours.  One of my good friends from The Garden Charmers on Facebook recently did a garden tour of her sister’s yard. She shared this lovely photo of her sister’s metal arbor.  You can view the whole tour on Organized Clutter.
